For many people starting a career in the gas industry, gaining a qualification is an important first step. But what comes next can be just as important.

For Caleb Lowery, completing his RQF Level 3 Gas Diploma at Lomax was the beginning of his journey into the industry, giving him the skills and qualification to take his next steps as a gas engineer.

Caleb completed his RQF Level 3 Gas Diploma with Lomax in December 2025. Throughout his training, he stood out through his approach to learning, his attitude and the drive he showed to develop his skills and to succeed.

Following his qualification, Caleb took the initiative to set up his own business and begin building his career independently. Like many people starting out in a new trade, establishing yourself and finding consistent opportunities can take time. However, Caleb's determination to make a career for himself in the industry did not go unnoticed.

During his time at Lomax, his work ethic, attitude and commitment to his training had made a strong impression on the team. When an opportunity arose with Utilergy Limited, Lomax was able to put Caleb forward for the role.

A New Opportunity

Utilergy is a specialist utilities company delivering services across the UK's energy and utility networks. With a focus on supporting the safe and efficient operation of essential infrastructure, the company provides practical services that play an important role in keeping customers connected.

Caleb now works with Utilergy carrying out purging and relighting work at customers' properties. The role gives him the opportunity to put the skills developed during his training into practice while gaining valuable experience working in real-world situations.

For Caleb, this represents an important step forward. What started with gaining his gas qualification has developed into an opportunity to build practical experience, continue learning and establish himself within the industry.

His journey is also a good example of why completing a qualification is not necessarily the end of your training. It can be the starting point for developing your experience, taking on new opportunities and building a career around the skills you've gained.

At Lomax, we are proud to see learners like Caleb progress from training with us into the industry. Whether you're looking to start a career in gas, develop your existing skills or gain the qualifications needed to take your next step, our training is designed to help you move forward.

Caleb's story shows that getting qualified is one step, but where that qualification takes you can depend on what you do with it.

If you're considering a career in gas engineering or looking to develop your existing skills, speak to the Lomax Training Services team to find out how we can help you take your next step.
