South Tyneside Council Job Fair "Get Trained, Get A Job." Event

As part of our outreach here at Lomax, we regurlaly attend local job fairs and events, working with councils and local initiatives to place learners onto skill building courses. At our latest event we headed down to South Shields Town Hall to attend the “Get Trained, Get a Job” event, after being kindly invited by Claire Cook from South Tyneside Council.

A big part of the event was chatting and networking with local people who are currently out of work, many of whom had a one on one session with our team. When we talked through the courses we offer, lots of people were surprised at how accessible the training is and how many job opportunities it can lead to.

We find that talking about someone’s interests and career goals really helps us suggest the course that suits them best, while also giving us the chance to answer any questions about our gas, plumbing, and other training options.

Events like this are always a great way to raise awareness of what we do, connect with the community, and encourage people to take that next step towards a skilled career.

Aside from the great conversations with attendees, it was also a valuable opportunity to connect with other employers and organisations. Some already knew our Managing Director, Jim, and our Business Development Manager, Tracey, which made for some great catch-ups and introductions. We had a productive chat with Ian Dipper, Employability Coach at the Foundation of Light, about potential future hands-on learning experiences, and also spoke with Steve Hart from Central Employment Agency about the possibility of collaborating on employability training in the near future. Overall, it was a positive and productive event for networking and strengthening opportunities for the locals and their ability to find employement

A great day at an even greater venue! From chatting with potential new learners to connecting with employers, the event was a brilliant opportunity to showcase what Lomax has to offer. South Shields Town Hall made for a fantastic setting, and we’re grateful to have been part of it.
